Remembering the Siege of Leningrad

The Siege of Leningrad ended 80 years ago, when Soviet troops liberated what is now Saint Petersburg. The Wehrmacht forces had inflicted terrible suffering on the people of Leningrad for more than two years.

A STOLPERSTEINE ceremony in commemoration of Foreign Office staff members who were persecuted by the National Socialist regime

Today, the artist Gunter Demnig, at the request of a group of Federal Foreign Office employees, will be laying more than 50 STOLPERSTEINE and one STOLPERSCHWELLE at the site on Wilhelmstraße in Berlin where the Foreign Office was located from 1870–1945.

The small memorial plaques will keep alive the memory of former Foreign Office staff members who were either laid off, persecuted or murdered by the National Socialist regime after it came to power in 1933
