Germany and the Bahamas: Bilateral relations

22.03.2024 - Article

Relations between the Bahamas and Germany are friendly and untroubled, but not very intensive. Cooperation in the United Nations is good; the Bahamas has frequently supported German initiatives and candidacies. There is no German diplomatic or career consular post in the Bahamas; an Honorary Consul takes care of German interests on the ground.

The volume of trade is marginal and the balance unequal. Exports to Germany amounted to more than 3.1 million euro in 2023, while in the same year imports from Germany, primarily machinery, amounted to just under 16,6 million euro.

A Tax Information Exchange Agreement between the two countries entered into force on 12 December 2011. A bilateral air transport Agreement was signed on 30 November 2021.

There is no bilateral development cooperation between Germany and the Bahamas. However, the Bahamas is involved in regional and multilateral German development cooperation via CARICOM, the World Bank and the regional development banks as well as in regional climate protection projects financed by the International Climate Initiative of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety.
