Russia’s illegal war of aggression against Ukraine has significant implications for the energy security in the Baltic Sea region. Offshore wind energy can be a substantial contribution to energy independence in the Baltic Sea region and in other regions. To realise this potential, the Baltic Sea states aim at enhancing their cooperation to accelerate the build-up of renewable energy sources and relevant infrastructure.

With the Baltic Offshore Wind Forum, Germany provides a platform under its CBSS presidency to bring together key stakeholders – both public and private sector as well as civil society. The forum will gather representatives from across the Baltic Sea region to discuss the development of offshore wind energy and promote regional cooperation. Discussions will focus on critical issues at the intersection of energy and security policies, such as resilient and interconnected infrastructure, manufacturing capacities or space requirements in the Baltic Sea region.

Jointly organised by the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark and the German Energy Agency (dena), this high-level forum on “Energy Security in the Context of Europe's Changing Geopolitical Landscape” is an important initiative to give a boost to Baltic offshore wind energy.

The forum will be hosted by Annalena Baerbock, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany, and Lars Løkke Rasmussen, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Denmark.
