Anna Lührmann, Minister of State for Europe and Climate at the Federal Foreign Office, welcomed her counterparts Laurence Boone from Paris and Konrad Szymański from Warsaw to a Weimar Triangle meeting in the Rheingau on 15 and 16 September 2022.
Minister of State Lührmann gave the following statement to mark the meeting:
The Weimar Triangle is an excellent format for shared reflection. It creates a space for candid dialogue. It fosters mutual understanding and mutual trust.
In light of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, the three European affairs ministers used this meeting to underline joint efforts to develop responses to current challenges and ensure a shared future in a strong, values-based European Union in the interest of the people of Europe.
Their talks revolved around the impact of the Russian war of aggression and support for Ukraine as part of the European family. They also met with refugees from Ukraine.
In addition, the joint statement issued by the French, German and Polish ministers for European affairs on 16 September 2022 reflects the commitment to strengthening civil-society cooperation and the bridges between the people of Europe within the framework of the Weimar Triangle.
The Weimar Triangle’s European affairs ministers last met in January 2020.
The Weimar Triangle was launched over thirty years ago as a Franco-German-Polish forum for cooperation. Today, it remains a symbol of how Europe’s future can be jointly shaped across borders.
