Human Rights Commissioner deeply shocked at executions in Kuwait
Federal Government Human Rights Commissioner Markus Löning issued the following statement today (2 April) on the executions in Kuwait:
Yesterday in Kuwait the execution of three people broke a nearly six-year-long moratorium on the death penalty. I am deeply shocked at this news. I call upon the Government of Kuwait to reinstitute the moratorium and commute the sentences of the remaining 48 prisoners on death row.
The death penalty is a cruel and inhumane punishment that has no place in the world of the 21st century. The German Government therefore opposes the death penalty under all circumstances.
