Foreign Minister Baerbock will be visiting Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania this Wednesday to Friday (20 to 22 April 2022).

On Wednesday, 20 April, Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock will meet with Edgars Rinkēvičs, the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Latvia, in Riga. A joint press conference is scheduled for after the meeting, at around 12.40 local time. Afterwards, she will meet for talks with Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš. Also on the Foreign Minister’s agenda is a visit to the NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence in Riga. At 15.30, a meeting between Foreign Minister Baerbock and the Foreign Ministers of all three Baltic states is planned. Latvian Foreign Minister Rinkēvičs has invited his counterparts to these B3+1 talks in Riga. The four Foreign Ministers are scheduled to hold a joint press conference at 17.00 local time. While in Riga, Foreign Minister Baerbock will also have an exchange of views with representatives from civil society.

On Thursday, 21 April, Foreign Minister Baerbock will travel on to Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, where she will hold bilateral talks with her Estonian counterpart Eva-Maria Liimets. The two Foreign Ministers are scheduled to hold a joint press conference at 12.55 local time. Afterwards, Foreign Minister Baerbock will meet for talks with Kaja Kallas, the Prime Minister of Estonia. In the afternoon, Foreign Minister Baerbock will have a discussion with pupils at a German partner school. Her agenda also includes a visit to the Victims of Communism Memorial in the Maarjamäe neighbourhood of Tallinn. Foreign Minister Baerbock will travel on to Lithuania on Thursday evening.

In Vilnius on Friday, 22 April, Foreign Minister Baerbock will meet with Lithuania’s President Gitanas Nausėda. Afterwards, she will hold talks with her Lithuanian counterpart Gabrielius Landsbergis, and both Foreign Ministers are scheduled to hold a joint press conference at approximately 11.05 local time. Her agenda also includes a visit to NATO’s enhanced Forward Presence Battlegroup deployed in Rukla, which is being led by Germany as its assigned framework nation.

The focus of the Foreign Minister’s talks in Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania will be the response of the EU, NATO and the international community to Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. In addition, she will discuss current international, European and bilateral issues.
