Minister of State Niels Annen visits Mexico
Minister of State Niels Annen is visiting Mexico from 29 November till 1 December 2018. The main reason for his trip is to attend the inauguration ceremony for the new President of the United Mexican States, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, on Saturday, 1 December. Beforehand, on Friday, 30 November, the Minister of State will also meet representatives of the new Government, the President of the Senate and various Senators, as well as representatives of the Foreign Ministry, civil society and the German business community.
Prior to his departure for Mexico, Minister of State Annen today (29 November) issued the following statement:
Mexico is a key partner for Germany. It accounts for over 30 percent of our exports to Latin America, and Germany is Mexico’s principal trading partner in the EU. Two thousand German companies are active in the country. As a member of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Group of Twenty leading industrialised and emerging economies (G20), Mexico plays an influential role in global trade issues.
Most recently, our close relations were emphasised with the German-Mexican year and the choice of Mexico as partner country at the 2018 HANNOVER MESSE trade fair. Within our partnership, we do not shy away from addressing areas of criticism, such as the human rights situation.
As we work with the new Government under President López Obrador, we want to continue the trusting cooperation we have enjoyed with Mexico to date.
