Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates of the Kingdom of Morocco, and Annalena Baerbock, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany, held their first video conference on 16 February 2022, during which the two Ministers agreed to build on the special quality of bilateral relations in all spheres in the spirit of time-tested policies, coherence and mutual respect.
The Ministers welcomed the terms of the letter exchange between H.E. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President of the Federal Republic of Germany, and His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in which they emphasise the mutual interest in establishing a new partnership between the two countries.
They stressed the considerable interest of both sides in close amicable relations between Morocco and Germany. They agreed to enter into a new dialogue with a view to overcoming the misunderstandings that have arisen in relations between the two countries and to intensifying their multifaceted bilateral ties.
The two Ministers praised the great potential of relations between Morocco and Germany and reaffirmed their shared interest in providing them with added impetus in light of the challenges of the recovery following the COVID‑19 pandemic and what that will require.
The two ministers agreed that cooperation should be resumed in all areas and involving all stakeholders.
In the coming weeks, therefore, guidelines will be defined jointly in order to revitalise and deepen dialogue and cooperation with the aim of mastering future regional and global challenges.
The German Minister welcomed the return of His Majesty’s Ambassador to Berlin and stressed that the Federal Republic of Germany’s new Ambassador would arrive in Morocco shortly.
