Welcome
Foreign Minister Maas travels to Bucharest
Foreign Minister Heiko Maas is travelling to Bucharest today (27 August), where he will deliver a speech at the Romanian Ambassadors Conference titled “Bucharest – Berlin – Brussels: united for a strong Europe”. He will also meet with both the Romanian President Klaus Iohannis and his counterpart, Minister of Foreign Affairs Teodor Meleşcanu.
Foreign Minister Maas issued the following statement prior to his departure:
European diplomatic relations are at the top of today’s agenda. I am particularly honoured to have been invited to speak at the Romanian Ambassadors Conference, right after the opening today of our own Ambassadors Conference.
Our Romanian colleagues face the same global challenges that we do. In foreign policy, nothing can be taken for granted any more. Yet our common reference points remain the same: we stand for European values, a rules-based international order and equitable globalisation. Our diplomats work towards these goals every day. I am looking forward to my discussions with them – in Berlin and in Bucharest.
