Welcome
Minister of State Roth to travel to Romania
Michael Roth, Minister of State for Europe, will visit Bucharest from 16 to 18 July.
In the Romanian capital, he will hold political talks with Victor Negrescu, Minister Delegate for European Affairs, and Liviu Dragnea, President of the Chamber of Deputies and President of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), as well as Leonard Orban, Presidential Adviser for European Affairs. Moreover, he will also meet Prosecutor General Augustin Lazar and representatives from both the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) and the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT). The talks will focus on Romania’s upcoming EU Council Presidency in the first half of 2019, and will also hone in on the dialogue on judicial reform and the rule of law. Minister of State Roth will also talk to representatives from civil society and the Roma minority.
Prior to his departure, Minister of State Roth said:
The dialogue with representatives from Romanian civil society and politics is very important to me, also with a view to the EU Council Presidency in the first half of 2019. We need Romania as a stable, reliable partner that is committed to common values. We are closely following the legislative developments with regard to the administration of justice. I believe that it is important that the domestic reform policy and the fight against corruption continue to be pursued with determination on the basis of the rule of law and the separation of powers.
