Welcome
“The Other 1 Percent – Refugee Students at Higher Education Institutions Worldwide” – Conference at the Federal Foreign Office
While 36 percent of young people around the world go on to higher education, the figure among refugees is only one percent.
On 18 and 19 June 2019, to mark World Refugee Day, the Federal Federal Foreign Office, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) are jointly hosting an international conference entitled “The Other 1 Percent – Refugee Students at Higher Education Institutions Worldwide”. The conference, which will be held in the Weltsaal at the Federal Foreign Office, aims to highlight the importance of higher education for refugees. It will also discuss the potential offered in this context by the Global Compact on Refugees. At the same time, the conference will seek to draw attention to programmes such as the Albert Einstein German Academic Refugee Initiative.
Foreign Minister Heiko Maas will deliver the opening speech, followed by UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi. Click here for the programme and further information about the conference.
