Foreign Minister Baerbock welcomes Germany joining the United Nations Command on the Korean Peninsula

02.08.2024 - Press release

Today Germany joined the United Nations Command that has been monitoring the enforcement of the Armistice Agreement in the demilitarised Zone between North and South Korea since 1953. Germany’s application to join was successful.

Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock issued the following statement today (2 August):

By joining the United Nations Command we are sending a signal for peace and stability on the Korean peninsula and strengthen our commitment in the Indo-Pacific. Especially in difficult times it is key to uphold the rules-based international order as a basis for peaceful cooperation. Just as others are there for us, we are there for others when they need us.
