Family reunion visa checklist - Spouses

All documents must be submitted in the original and with two sets of photocopies.

The originals will be returned after completion of the procedure.

⬜ Two fully completed application forms

Declaration pursuant to § 54 (2) no. 8 in conjunction with. § 53 of the Residence Act, completed and signed by hand

⬜ Two recent biometric passport photos (size 35 x 45mm) in front of a light background

⬜ A valid and signed passport (with at least six months of validity remaining, issued within the last 10 years and at least two blank pages).

⬜ Other valid and already expired passports

⬜ NPC birth certificate (if born after 13th December 1992) / certified copy of the local birth register OR affidavit (“declaration of age” deposed to by one of the parents or the head of the family, if both parents are late)

⬜ For non-Nigerian nationals: Nigerian residence permit

⬜ Copies of the data page of the passport of the spouse living in Germany + two copies of the Nigerian entry visa and associated entry and exit stamps, if applicable.

⬜ In the case of spouses without German nationality: copies of the German residence title.

⬜ Two biometric passport photos of the spouse living in Germany

⬜ Marriage certificate

⬜ Marriage certificates and divorce decrees of any previous marriages

⬜ Marriage certificates and divorce decrees of any previous marriages of the spouse

Affidavit* from a parent or the head of the family on the applicant's marital status (“Declaration of Spinsterhood/Bachelorhood”).

⬜ All school certificates

⬜ If applicable, university certificates

⬜ If applicable, baptismal certificate and other biographically older documents (voter's card, library card, vaccination certificate etc.)

⬜ Fully completed questionnaire for verification of documents

⬜ If available: Photos of the wedding ceremony and other old family photos

⬜ Proof of birth for any existing children who are not to move to Germany, as well as the address and telephone number of the other parent

⬜ Proof that the applicant can communicate in German in a simple manner (A1 certificate). Certificate not older than one year at the time the visa is issued - can thus be submitted later during the visa processing

⬜ Up-to-date proof of residence of the spouse living in Germany (Meldebescheinigung)

⬜ A prepaid courier envelope from one of the courier companies represented.

*If necessary, with illiteracy endorsement.

Additional documents may be required depending on the individual case. All costs associated with obtaining the necessary documents are to be borne by the applicant.
