The Federal Foreign Office on the presidential election in Senegal
Today (7 March) a Federal Foreign Office Spokesperson issued the following statement on the presidential election in Senegal:
We welcome the decision of the Senegalese Constitutional Council. This decision establishes legal clarity on the election procedure.
With President Sall setting the date for the presidential election as 24 March, the groundwork has finally been laid to enable the people of Senegal to now elect their new head of state freely and democratically.
Background information:
On 6 March, the Constitutional Council of the Republic of Senegal ruled that the presidential election originally scheduled for 25 February had to be held at the latest on 31 March. The same day, President Sall issued a decree setting the election date as 24 March.
